Taieri Gorge Train Journey - Milford Sound cruise - Tranz Alpine train - Skyline Gondola & Kiwi Magic Movie
DEPARTS: 8.00am Daily
Report to 123 Worcester Street at 7.30 am.
DAY 1: Christchurch - Dunedin
Travel across the Canterbury Plains through seaside Timaru, whitestone Oamaru and along
the coastline to Palmerston. Cross Mt Cargill to Dunedin, the 'Edinburg of
the South'. Arrive in early afternoon with time for
optional sightseeing of the wildlife of the Otago Peninsula. Overnight in
Dunedin.
DAY 2: Dunedin - Taieri Gorge - Queenstown
This morning is free at your leisure for optional sightseeing. Board Taieri gorge train
for a journey through spectacular gorges and over historic viaducts to Pukerangi, where
you join your coach for the remainder of the journey to Queenstown. Arrive in
Queenstown in the late evening and stay for three nights.
DAY 3: Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown
An early start takes you alongside the lake to Kingston, then on to Mossburn and Lake Te
Anau. Travel through the Fiordland National Park, passing the Mirror Lake, the
Chasm, the Homer Tunnel and the Cleddau Chasm. A cruise on Milford Sound beneath
lofty Mitre Peak, waterfalls and out to the mouth of the Tasman Sea is included.
Then you climb out of Milford Sound to return to Queenstown by evening.
DAY 4: At Queenstown
Today is completely at your leisure in this alpine playground - we have included the
Skyline gondola and the Kiwi Magic movie in your tour. There are dozens of optional
activities as well, from thrilling jet boat rides to leisurely lake cruises, 4WD safaris,
bungy jumping.
DAY 5: Queenstown - Glaciers
Travel to Cromwell and on through the southern lakes district to the Haast Pass. As
you travel into the remote Westland region, you may like to take a jet boat
ride(optional). Dense rainforest contrasts with rugged coastal vistas as you travel
north towards the glaciers. A shuttle will take you to the viewing platform to see
one of these massive rivers of ice. Overnight at Fox or Franz Josef Glacier.
DAY 6: Glaciers - Christchurch
Travel north past Hokitika, where you can see jade carvers at work, to Greymouth.
Here you board the renowned Tranz Alpine train and travel through the lenghty Otira
Tunnel, over Arthur Pass and across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. Tour ends
on arrival at approximately 6.05 pm.
